School – Trường học hay gọi tắt là Trường (ngoài ra còn được gọi là Học đường hay Học hiệu) là một cơ quan được lập ra nhằm giáo dục cho học sinh dưới sự giám sát của giáo viên.

Phần lớn các quốc gia đều có hệ thống giáo dục tiêu chuẩn, hầu hết là bắt buộc. Trong các hệ thống này, học sinh thường trải qua các loại trường khác nhau, tùy nơi tên gọi trường có thể khác nhau nhưng chủ yếu gồm trường tiểu học và trường trung học. Mẫu giáo và nhà trẻ là các giai đoạn trước khi vào trường học.

Ngày nay, ngoài các nhà trường truyền thống còn có trường học tại nhà và trường học trực tuyến. Trong tiếng Việt, trường học còn có thể bao gồm cả trường cao đẳng, trường đại học và các cơ sở giáo dục khác.

Trước cách mạng công nghiệp, trẻ em cũng góp một phần sức lao động, lúc đó trẻ em chưa được xem là đối tượng cần được bảo hộ và che chở. Trong những ngày đầu trẻ em bị bắt làm việc trong các nhà máy như người lớn, với điều kiện lao động tồi tàn, không khí ô nhiễm, số lượng trẻ em chết lên đến con số chóng mặt.

Nhận ra đây là vấn nạn của xã hội, chính phủ đã chủ trương xây dựng các trường học – ra đời với 2 vai trò lớn: Thứ nhất là nơi bảo hộ trẻ em. Thứ hai là nuôi dưỡng chúng trở thành những lao động cho nhà máy như mong muốn.
